Today, 8-20-08, I attented a manditory in-service in where a CHP officer came & talked to us about the program he is offiliated with. As a single woman, I didn't want to imagine anything that was going thru the minds of any of the many parents (my co-workers) that were also in attendance. Tho I have no children of my own (yet), I couldn't help but get choked up myself. Seeing these young, precious, people in the circumstances they were in & hearing the officers inform the parents that their child had been either killed or severly injured in an alcohol related accident. As a school bus driver, I worry that I am going to hear about one of my students being hurt/killed in some sort of accident. I am glad that this program is in existance. I hope that this kind of program continues & continues to make the positive changes not in just the lives of the students, but the lives of all the family/friends, as well. All it takes is one time to make the wrong choice & everything can change......just like that. Kristen Acosta 2008-08-20

As a firefighter, I come close to the tragic events that can change lives everyday. I see as people with broken bones are carried off, I can't stress enough how important it is as a young adult to more than ever, keep your thoughts correct, and never ever decide to get behind the wheel impared. It's a tragic event to have to arrive at a traffic incident and find a young life pinned down in a vehicle, or even dead. Too many times we all see these events, and just one time is always and already too many.
It's easier to stop think call for a ride home, a friend a relative, a cab, anyone.. because that wrong decision can mean the end of you, your best friend, date anyone who you truly care about.
Think before you act, your life is ahead, make sure you always make it to that distination.. Colonia FD "Everyone goes home" Paul 2008-08-20

My name is James Withrow. I am a Detective for the City of Harrah in Oklahoma. I am also on the fatality accident squad. I just recently order the tape and manual. I am just in the stage of selling this program to my Chief and the school system. I look forward to ordering the supplies I need and doing this program. I am confident that they will all see the need for it as I have after being told of this program. If we can save one live, it is worth it. Keep up the good work. Det. James Withrow 2008-08-17

Dear Every 15 Minutes,
This year we had your program come to our school at Castro Valley High School a week before my Junior Prom, it made a positive impact on everyone! unfortunetly on 8/12/ 08 we lost two of our student to a terible car accident that may have had been in a street race. One student had just graduated this year and a nother that was in my grade and would have been starting her senior year. We all miss them very much and we are coming together as a community to help there families. Police say there is no evidence of drugs or alcohol. After watching the final part of the asembly with the funeral, I never really expected that that would ever really happen to our schools students. But know that it has happened I would like to thank you even more for opening my eyes so it wouldn't make this time even more difficult for the students of Castro Valley high School. Thank You Megan H 2008-08-14

This past April Niles Senior High did the Every 15 Minutes program. I was one of the people who died. I can honestly tell you this is the best program ever! It was almost to real. My friends and family all morned my being dead, and right in front of me too. I have to say I hope the high school does this in the future because I think it had an impact! Thank you for creating this program! Beth Miller 2008-08-07

My name is Victoria and i participated in the Every 15 minutes program at Hanford High School. I joined the program because my mom is an alcoholic and drives while she is intoxicated. I knew that everything we did was staged but it did not prepare me for what i was going to face when i stayed at the hotel with the rest of the participating students. The day we actually put on the program i was to play a dead person in the play we were putting on and before all that went on i had to hold open the doors to our audtiorium dressed as a dead person. I had some students who were very rude and trying to get me to talk, but i think the ones that ignored me were the worst. It felt weird being ignored like that. I will never regret joining this program and if i would do it over again i would in a heart beat. This program is the best thing you could ever do for your school and seniors. Victoria 2008-07-23

MY NAME IS SARAH AND I WAS A PART OF THE EVERY 15 MINUTE PROGRAM MY SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL, 2002 AND I JUST HAVE TO SAY THAT GOING INTO IT KNOWING IT WASN'T REAL, THAT IT WAS STAGED STILL DIDN'T PREPARE ME FOR WHAT I WOULD GO THROUGH OVER THE 2 DAY PERIOD. I JOINED THE PROGRAM BECAUSE I HAD A FRIEND THAT WOULD DRINK AND DRIVE ALL THE TIME, ONE NIGHT HE DID IT WITH MY BEST FRIEND IN THE CAR AND I'D HAD ENOUGH. OUR HEALTH TECH, KNOWING WHAT I WAS DEALING WITH WITH THIS FRIEND ASKED ME TO BE A PART OF THE PROGRAM AND I AGREED AT ONCE. BEING THAT I WAS 18 I WAS CHOSEN TO BE THE ONE THAT WAS AIR LIFTED WHICH WAS THE COOLEST EXPERIENCE EVER BUT SCARY AT THE SAME TIME. MY BEST FRIENDS AND BOYFRIEND STAYED WITH MY MOM WHILE ALL THIS WAS GOING ON, THEY WERE EVEN AT MY HOUSE WHEN THE COPS SHOWED UP TO TELL HER I "DIED". MY ENGLISH TEACHER WAS AGAINST THE PROGRAM BECAUSE OUR SCHOOL HAD SUFFERED A TERRIBLE LOSS A FEW MONTHS BEFORE AND WE'D HAD 9-11 TO ALSO DEAL WITH BUT EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS AGAINST IT SHE GAVE ME EXTRA CREDIT FOR PARTICIPATING IN IT, AS DID MY CHOIR TEACHER. IT WAS A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE, SOMETHING THAT WAS REALLY HARD TO GO THROUGH BUT I WOULD DEFINITELY GO THROUGH IT ALL OVER AGAIN IF I HAD THE CHANCE. sarah 2008-06-15

Dear Dean, I sent this to Mike and Juliet after watching the program today. I really hope that you will receiving this email, because even after 10 years, I remember that day as if it was yesterday. Sincerely, Dear Mike and Juliet, While feeding my twin girls this morning, I was watching your show, as I normally do at 9am in Philadelphia. However, ten years ago, I lived in Bethlehem, PA. This is where Officer Dean Wilson first put on the Every 15 program; and I was apart of the program. I have to say, after watching your show, I was appalled by the interpretation of Every 15 Minutes in California, and also a upset with you guys for not showing what the program is really supposed to do. Let me lay it out for you, and Juliet, if you don’t get chills perhaps you should go and be a part of one. After a long day of grim reapers going in and out of class rooms, pronouncing students have died as a result of a car accident, the junior and senior class was assembled outsided in front of a roped off soccer field with blue tarps covering, who knew. All of a sudden, you are HUGE crash over an immense sound system(I am getting chills recalling the event). After the crash all of the tarps are ripped off of numerous cars. The next thing you see are some students getting out off the cars. The sirens start and about 2 minutes later, police cars and fire engines pull up to the school. Over the loud speaker, you hear the woman who does the traffic on a local pop radio station say there there has been a terrible accident at Freedom High school and numerous students are injured; please avoid the area due to traffic. I was in one of those cars, I was to remain lifeless. The next thing, jaws of life (REALLY) were cutting through the car. It was incredibly loud in the car. I was crying, for real. The fire fighters pulled me out of the car. I was now in an ambulance. In the ambulance I would relax a little bit, because I was actually crying. They cut off my jeans. I was told to lay back down, because we had arrived at a local trauma unit. When the doors opened, it was insane. There was a nurse on top of the stretcher and me, mocking chest compressions and mouth to mouth. I was then put on a bed in the ER and I can’t even tell you what was happening. All of this medical jargen being spurted out, they cut off my clothes (leaving me in a sports bra and a pair of bike shorts) They put tubes in my mouth. And then the worse part of all; my mom came into the room. She was crying (really crying) and leaned over the bed and said, “Natalie, I know you are not supposed to but can you please just squeeze my hand, I’m scared.” Of course, I did, and she then balled in hysterics. My parents were then told that I was brain dead more or less and I would probably not come out of the coma, did they want to donate my body to science. My mother knew that I wanted to be an organ donor when I turned 16, and she refused to sign the papers. She then told the doctor that she fought with me over this subject, and I wanted my organs donated. IT WAS OVER!!!! I stood up, and left the room, and there were my parents waiting for me! Talk about emotions running wild!!! I was not the only student that day that this happened too. Some were paralized, others were dead. I remember hearing some of my friends crying, when on the radio, you hear, just reported 3 Freedom High school seniors died as a result of the accident. The following day, we had a big assembly in the auditorium, and we got to speak. I can tell you for a fact that the Freedom High School 1998 Senior Prom was 99% void of alcohol. I am a mother now of three and a step son who is now 12, and I pray that when he is in high school that someone has them participate in this life changing program…. DEAN’s WAY!!!!!!! Unfortunately in these times, students are less sensitive then before, even when I was in school. The reality part of it, gives students a wake up call. Really, what is worse, your friends dying as a part of an act, or your friends really dying because they don’t know how it may feel???? These are questions that your expert guests should consider. I admire Officer Wilson, and was very excited when I saw he was on your show until you put the program that he has worked so hard on, bringing a scary situation to communities. Thank you for listening! Natalie Bickel (Scott) Philadelphia, PA Natalie Bickel (Scott) 2008-06-15

Hi,
I am just through browsing your site and I've found it to be very interesting and innovative way of creating awareness of the consequences of drunken driving to our youths in Trinid and Tobago. I think I owuld use your idea to get the message accross to my students. David Lee Chee 2008-06-14

My name is Ken. I am makeup artist. I have worked with several high schools in my area doing the makeup for the students involved in the mock crash and the living dead. I must say, if this program was alive when I was in high school, I might still have a very close friend of mine in my life. This is a very powerful program. Kudos to the creator. I have heard directly from students that participated in this program, that just participating in this powerful program has changed their lives forever. Looking forward to doing more of these projects. Ken Nolls 2008-06-08

hey im a student from a high school in cape breton canada and for the past 2 days we did the every 15 minutes program at my skewl and i had the honor of being part of it i was in the mock accident and let me tell u it has changed my life forever. it was very diffuclt to see how it felt to actually to see and feel like when u r dead and cant speak to anyone or have any contact what so ever. i would have to say the mock furneal was the hardest to do because my family and friends were there and there was nothin i could do to comfort them. but in the end i seen the effect that this program had on the student body and the community and i must say im proud to say i was a part of this. jessica gwinn 2008-06-06

On 05/29/08 students at Cottage Grove High School in Oregon did the every 15 minutes program. WOW what an inpact it had on the students, not only those involved, but those seeing it also. I really applaude all of those involved in the program they are truly dedicated to the safety and well being of their fellow students. I hope other students take this on in the future so it can be done at least every other year if not every year. Being from a small one town high school we have had our share of deaths whether it be from alcohol or just poor driving skills. So it was really an eye opener to all students the impact death of a fellow classmate has on those in our lives. Please continue to do the work you do, so we can educate others. wow... every 15 minutes went on yeserday and the day before at my school, Elmolino. it was very powerfull and hit me hard. recently an alchohol related collision killed the mother of my step brother and sisters. i get to see everyday how much i affects them. i couldnt take the memorial assembly very well though. thank you for making this program and showing it at my school. if it saves one child or adult from drinking and driving, it was worth it. On Thurday May 22 & 23 2008. The Every 15 Minutes recently took place at my school, McNair High School. The program was a great experience because it taught me a lesson which was that you may think it could never happen to you but it really can. If i participated in the program and was one of the ones who had to read what I would say if I could say one last thing before I died. i would say How much I love my family & friends. That really hit home for me because even though I could see my friends standing there I knew that there is always the possiblility that I could die and it made me apperciate our friendship even more. I think the program is wonderful and I think everyone got the message and learned something from the experience. I'm very greatful that I got to experience it. I'd like to give a special thanks to the creators of the program because you are effecting change by having this around. Where Can i get a shirt? I'm a senior. I want to remeber that day for ever. My sons school Lindhurst High
School in Olivehurst, CA just finshed up their two days of every 15 minutes. What a great experience for our children and their peers. My son died at the hospital and I had to go to the morgue and identify him. What an overwhelming feeling. Seeing my son lying their motionless, bloody, was hard. I never want to experience this again. My heart goes out to the parents that have experienced this in real life. At least my son was able to come home today. Theirs is gone forever. Thanks to this program, lives will be forever changed. Anne Kelley 2008-05-24

I'm a current Nevada Union High School student, well for another few weeks, and all day yesterday we enacted our E15M program. I was involved with the production crew, as I filmed and edited and also took photographs, approx. 2000 photos. This experience really hammers in the emotions of drinking and driving, and even though I knew nobody was really injured, it was difficult for me to see my friends and their parents in so much emotional pain. There was not one person who was not effected in one way or another. Our production was approximately 18 minutes long including the credits and I will upload it the internet soon. I will also upload the photos. I strongly recommend this program to any high school interested. It was truly amazing and undescribabe. Jacob Warwick 2008-05-24

I am a Senior at Pioneer High School and On May 21-22 I had a rare oppritunity to be apart of the Every 15 minutes program. I was chosen to become one of the walking dead. This task that was giving to us students was more difficult and emotional than we thought it would be. It was a great experience and like and like no other i have had. I am glad that Pioneer took on this challenge this year, especially now so close to prom. I hope all the students attending our school understood why this program is such a big deal. I also hope they gained as much as i have from this experience. By being apart of the every 15 Minute program, My eyes ahve opened and i have realized so much that ive never noticed before. I hope Pioneer keeps this program up becuase is think it will help the students to make better choices in life. I am glad I got to be apart of such a great program. I was involved in this program during my senior year of high school at Granite Hills in El Cajon. This program is really life changing. Students and families have really no idea unless they've gone through the reality of this, how devastating one single persons death can be to a whole community. To be told that your dead and that your son or daughter have died do to a alcohol related accident, is a pain so great that is unbearable. This program is the best experience that has happened to me. Wendy Martinez 2008-05-23

Over the last two days we saw the every 15 minuet reinactment and i couldn't believe how real and scarey it looked. The accident and the Funeral just everything that was done was so real and it made me cry even though it wasnt real i was thinking this does happen and sometimes even worse. It gave me the chills but it was very good. Jordynn Sytko 2008-05-23

Just yesterday a group of seniors at Portola High School reenacted a car crash in which several people, including a pregnant woman, were killed by a drunk driver taking a girl to the hospital (the girl was passed out from alcohol poisoning). Then we watched the driver get arrested and taken off to prison. It really opened my eyes to the dangers of drunk driving. If I were one of the people who "died" in that crash, my family would be devastated. It's not worth the risk to drive drunk, you are putting several lives, including your own, on the line. For the past two days, the juniors and seniors of both Granada and Livermore High Schools have watched the collision reenactment, and have participated in the mock funeral service. I am a junior from Granada High, and just to be a spectator was unbearably emotional. watching my friends out there on the field was one of the hardest things i've done. i've witnessed many drunk driving collisions, and have nearly been the victim of a few, but nothing hits home like having your friends "die" in front of you. even if it wasn't real, it sent a powerful message to me and my fellow students. this program was the best thing i've ever participated in, and thanks to you here at every 15 minutes, i now know what it's like to see this happen. i now know what can happen. and i now know, more so than i ever have, that i will never drink and drive.
thank you, Every 15 Minutes, for putting this program out there.thank you for showing people what can happen when you drink and drive. and thank you for saving another person's life. Amy Thorpe 2008-05-21

I am a nurse in a Level II Trauma Center, I see this tragedy everyday. My 17 yo son was in the Every 15 Minutes program the past 2 days as a injured victim. I can not tell you the impact it had on me, a seasoned ER RN but mainly the impact it had on the students. This program is invaluable. GREEN BAY, WI Lisa Koehler 2008-05-21

This Morning the Juniors & Seniors of Pioneer High School watched the re-enactment of the drunk driving collision. I myself being a Senior and also having my permit makes me really think about things like these. Tomorrow afternoon we will see the final stage of this program. But by far it has been very breathe taking to see my peers that have "died" walking around with no expression in their face. This program i guess has come just in time. Since our Prom is just one weekend away. Lucy Lopez 2008-05-21

Yesterday and the day before, El Camino High School participated in the E15M program. The realistic nature of the program has caused much controversy, and many have protested and acted disrespectfully. I am proud to say that I, along with the other half of our student body, support this program. Even though it may have had a severe emotional impact on my peers (as well as myself!), it was nothing beyond necessary to ensure that lives are saved from drunk driving incidents. I give E15M my full support, and recommend it to anyone who really wants to help put an end to drunk driving. Jessica Miller 2008-05-21

I was in the Every 15 Minutes progam.
I also was part of the Living Dead. We had the progam on May 13-14th. I believe that it well help people find the right way to go. No to drink in drive. I saw how much it affected people. I also saw how much that people were being silly during the progam. I believe that EVERY school should do this. Just seeing that people are in a accient that were freinds or cusins. I think that people should relize just in a matter of seconds that someone could be seriously be hurt!! Thank You soo much for makeing this progam .... Breanne McKinley 2008-05-21

Hi my name is Steph. I currently attend Ephrata High School. I'd like to say that the reenactment of the car crash at our school on May 13 was a good way to get the point across that drinking and driving is a horrible thing to do. The people involved I'd like to thank. you hit home with teh car crash and the assembly on May14 i had a friend die because of a drunk driver. It was about three years ago on March 28. His name was Tony and he was killed by a drunk driver and it should have been me. He was the one who made me live instead of himself. Tony pushed me out of the way of the car. His leg was badly broken in several places and almost all of his ribs were broken. I was the one who had to explain to his parents and the police what happened. It was hard and seeing the crash outside of school really hit home. The point of telling this is that as hard as it was to watch it really did make me more determined to not ever drink and drive. So thanks<3 Stephanie Eckman 2008-05-19

My son was killed by a drunk driver, which was his cousin, they had not seen each other all night when he pick up my son and he asked him to ride back out to a party that my son had just got home from. My son did not know his cousin was drunk, he would have got in the car, for my son was also drunk, he would have took the keys. He always had some one to drive him home, but as I found out, when god gets ready for you, you’re going, my son was already at home and gonna go to bed when his cousin came by, so it don’t matter, when it is your time. For the past two days our school has experienced this every 15 minutes program. The accident then to the funeral. It was a huge impact of our school. Knowing that it was fake people still took it seriously. The fact that it could happen and it does happen is breath taking.
Like everyone says; "You don't know what you have until it is gone"
Thank you for the idea of this program you have created, because it could make people think twice when they look at the cause and effect of drinking and driving.

Hi, My name is Arielle. I'm a junior at Grossmont High. Last week we had our "every fifteen minutes." I have to say, that was probably the most emotional two days of my life. My best friend "died" and when I saw his face painted white, I cried. This program impacted many of the students at our school. The crash was horrible. It was so realistic. But the funeral the next day got to me the most. Watching the living dead blow out their candles was so hard. Then my best friend's mom went up and spoke. I lost it then. I think everyone at the assembly left that day with tears in their eyes and a better awareness to drunk driving.
Thank you so much for coming to our school and doing this program. It means alot to all of us. Arielle Shelby 2008-05-10

this program was held at my school campus on may the forth and it had a huge impact on my friends and i well that is kinda messed up how they said like all the popular kids name over the inter com system that made alot of people start to cry and pass out some of the guys started laughing so i think they are going to have to be in it to see the real tragedy in what can happen klarissa 2008-05-09

Hey, I am currently a Freshman at Marsh Valley High SChool we participated in th Every 15 Minutes Program and i really feel that you guys have made each and every one of us that saw the re-enactment of the collision or just even the video during the assembley the next day think twice about Drinkgin then Driving...and even if you didnt touch some of the students at our school I know that you have definatly touched me. I also no that i will never make the choice to Drink then Drive as long as I live!! I just wanted to let you know how much this has touched me!!! Our school, freedom high school in bethlehem Twsp recently held this program. It was a real eye opener to all, and the funeral the next day, there probally wasnt a dry eye in the gym. Especially with out guest speaker and all. It was truley an expirence that will stick with me for the rest of my life. It made me realize what if that was me and my bestfriend(s) or what would my parents have to go through? Even though it was a mock accident it was as real as it could get but luckily our students got to rise from the "dead" and our drunk driver was released and they all got to go home to their parents and say i love you. Some people just arent that lucky, and are silences, and some parents just wish to say that one last i love you or get that one last hug. Bethlehem Township, PA Erin Seitz 2008-05-09

Wow! this was amazing. I heard about this in the past from my brothers and sisters and knew it was emotional but i was like i know what to expect it won't be bad. I was wrong. This had a huge impact on me. I realized a decision as far as driving while under the influence is the biggest mistake and could be the biggest life changing choice you will ever make. It really hit home when you saw the students our friends crying because they didnt get to see their family for one night casue they were "dead." But imagine how families feel that this really happened to. If thats the reaction from one night I dont want to know forever. This is the greatest program I have ever seen. Please more schools should do this. It helps alot. Maybe doesnt stop underage drinking but i know many people will not drive atleast when they drink now. Thanks everyone who brought it to Freedom High Schol. Bethlehem, PA J 2008-05-09

Hi, the every 15 minutes program at Freedom High School really REALLY got to me. Even though I don't drink, I still thought before this that nothing will kill me in a car. I realized that other drunk drivers can claim YOUR innocent life. From what I saw from this program...totally shocked me. What if that was me in the body bag. What would other people think, even those who have something against me. What would my parents think? I would never know. Then having an innocent parent of her 16 year old son, I was really emotional. I can't imagine what she feels even though it was a decade ago. It's reality, it stays with you for life. This program opened my eyes, and I thank you for it. THANK YOU, I got into my car this afternoon, and just sat there. What if I crash on the way home from some drunk driver? I walked in the door today and hugged my mom. She didn't know about this program until I told her. Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping me understand that life isn't short. Hi, the every 15 minutes program was recently at Freedom High School. The every 15 minutes program got me really thinking even though I am senior. realizing that I can lose my friends on prom due to drinking and driving is pretty devasting. The students who volunteered in this program, I knew most of them. While at the rally on May 8th during my fourth block class and May 9th during frist and second block.Listening to what the students had to say got me very emotional. Especially, when the mother herself made a speech about her son. I can't even imagine going through that type of horrible disaster. Not only did every 15 minutes get thinking, it got me to say if the program came to Freedom during my sisters senior year I would want her to take part of this program. It took a lot of courage for the students to make their speech in front of students, staff, friends and family. To listen to what they had to say gets everyone thinking. It especially got me thinking, that very day I told my friends that are going to prom, to be careful don't drink and drive; also do not get into a car where the driver has been drinking then you will regret everything. I dont het into peer prussure but i told all my friend that if u get drunk dont u dear drink call me ill come get you regardless if your in bethlehem or New York i will come get you I dont care if its 3 in the morning and im sleepin call me ill get up and get you Thank you Every 15 minutes. -Bethlehem PA Tasha Jenkins 2008-05-08

Were making a program like this but its less complex. its for the day before prom. It just give kids the idea of what could happen if they drink and drive. they just need to be careful and be safe. every 15 minutes is the best program! Inerlachen, FL Danielle 2008-05-06

Hi, the every 15 minutes program was recently at Ganesha High School. The every 15 minutes program got me really thinking even though I am sophomore. Releazing that I can lose my friends on prom due to drinking and driving is pretty devasting. The students who volunteered in this program, I knew most of them. While at the rally on May 2, 2008 with my second period class, listening to what the students had to say got me very emotional. Especially, when the mother herself made a speech about her son. I can't even imagine going through that type of horrible diaster. Not only did every 15 minutes get thinking, it got me to say if the program came to Ganesha during my senior year I would like to take part of this program. It took a lot of courage for the students to make their speech in front of students, staff, friends and family. To listen to what they had to say gets everyone thinking. It especially got me thinking, that very day I told my friends that are going to prom, to becareful don't drink and drive; also do not get into a car where the driver has been drinking then you will regret everything. I do not know about the others who have witnessed E15M in action, but I know that personally, the harshness of the funeral was an important lesson in reality. The people in our school, though I only knew one, who had been a part of the accident were missed. I actually felt as if these people i know were gone. I barely knew them and i missed them. This program not only teaches reality, but it teaches the strong, personal conciquences that one person's actions can cause. I know that the people closely involved in this program will think twice before entering a car or driving drunk. This program had a stong affect of my friends and i. E15M is the closest anyone wants to get to this scary reality. Morgan Hill, CA Samantha Harmon 2008-05-03
